Stopping Child Abuse in Nebraska

 

FACTS:

·        In the United States, nearly 5 children die every day as a result of child abuse. (childhelp.org)

·   Nebraska had over 30,000 reports of child abuse during calendar year 2014 (Nebraska DHHS)

·   Adults who were abused as children are at higher risk of alcohol/drug abuse, sexually transmitted infections, mental health issues, criminal activity, and imprisonment. (childhelp.org)

 

REPORT IT

o   Call the Nebraska DHHS Abuse/Neglect Hotline at 1-800-652-1999

o   You may keep your information confidential.

o   All citizens are considered “mandated reporters” in Nebraska.


PREVENT IT

o   Contact the Nebraska Family Helpline to ask for advice 1-888-556-5117

o   Contact OMNI Behavioral Health Family Support Services for family support at home, school, and the community

o   Get involved at your child’s school.

o   Attend local government meetings (city council or school board meetings) and let them know how important resources are in your community. Let them know how parks, strong schools, and accessible services help to strengthen your family and other families.

o   Inform others about Safe-haven laws. Nebraska is a Safe-haven state.
